Harvest Moon

When the wind has stopped
And the roads are dirt and grass
And the lonely calling of hummingbirds
Has come to pass

When the trees have all
Sprouted their last limb
And the leaves that Fall
From stretches that I’ve worn thin

When a stranger calls
And I just sure don’t pick up the phone
And staring at that rotary dial
The pain of times have gone

And I reach into my pocket
To try to just rearrange
But it’s all empty now that I’m
All out of change

--

--

The very, very slightest hint of Fall–
an eager leaf that got anxious & jumped before his time, setting off the wind.
Oblivous to the daffodil’s call-
Brushing excited cinnamon dust at rest, coating the perfect blend.
Of a cup carried ‘round the shopping Mall-
As a lantern Blistering warmth to shine on lonely sweaters, a cozy history to be told and mend.
Together the two paths of fallen leaf, separate trees a’tall-
Folding in together as they Fall in place, a lovely letter to stamp and send.

Lights fading
Fading fast
From the everglow
It’d never last
More than a few days
Top to bottom

I didn’t come with the battery
And this flashlights all out
The blue light of the moon
Is all that lights this room
And we stand alone
I’m on rewind

And this tape’s run out
All this tape’s run out
All this tape’s run out

This tape’s run out

And I just want to
Take it back and get a different one
With you
But there’s no fitting
That shape that you contain

And this tape’s run out
All this tape’s run out
All this tape’s run out

This tape’s run out

Freeform Friday #2

Windshaken
Godforsaken
Honey Make Me (Godforsaken)
Level up my gravity

Can I just bring it
Won’t be secret
Lie in rhythm (Won’t be secret)
Do me like I wanna be

Gets me twisted
Can’t resist it
Try and hide it (Can’t resist it)
Won’t be long it’s true you see

I can’t stop it
I can’t fight it
Or invite it (I can’t fight it)
Caress me smooth and set me free

Take my place I
Will erase me
But you chase me (Will erase me)
Lift me up, I wanna see

Snow and globe from
Long ago when
Latch was opened (Long ago when)
Take me down and let it be

--

--

It was dead of Fall
You just couldn’t hold
The basket full of butterflies
A lending to unfold

It was dead of night
We just never cared
For leaning on egregious light
Of our kaleidescopic wonder
Lullaby

Lullaby
Lullaby
Lullaby

It was three A.M.
I’d just never seen
The kind of burning eyes:
Simmered from the candle lighted ocean beam

--

--

Bring me back home
Set me back so lightly (It’s a gas)
Bring me back home
Set me back so lightly (Close compartmental refrain)
Bring me back home
Set me back so lightly (Know you and you love it)
Bring me back home
Set me back so lightly (To that place where no one knows)
[repeat ad infinitum]

Freeform Friday #1

Crippled down the runway
A silk embrace around my neck
Swirls around inside me
Until there’s nothing left
It lifts
It shifts bringing rain
Up and down it goes
Beauty of my pain
A faceless rounded figure
It glitches far away
And then so ever near my friend

I can’t ever quite grasp
A subtle glance that lasts
And so I show up here
Where it’s about as crystal clear
As a specific scene from the past
That will fit just right
Assorted puzzle pieces
Assembled every night
I have to capture what
My hands can never hold
A canvas black and white
Its between the fold
It echoes
It repeats on cue
A tangled web of just
What love and pain will do
